|Artist's statement and description:||Gail was born in Cape Town and loved drawing from an early age, after matriculating she went on to study Graphic design before moving to Johannesburg. Here she worked in advertising agencies as well as design studios where she specialised in package design. In 2017 she was introduced to Ann Harris’s Botanical Art Classes. This she saw as a natural progression where she could use her knowledge and passion for design and colour in an art form.
What appealed to Gail most about this type of painting was not only the exquisite detail she now found in every leaf, petal, fruit or seed, but also if the subject was in full bloom or had died, the beauty did not diminish in any way but rather became even more interesting. She found the medium of water colour perfect for the precision of painting botanicals. She has also attended courses given by Gill Condy, Elsa Pooley, Vicky Thomas and Lynda de Wet to name a few.
Gail has exhibited at the Everard Read Gallery for the WWE, in Reunion for the 2019 Biodiversity Conference, in Moscow for the Rare and Endangered Plants of the world exhibition as well as at the Johannesburg International Flower Show.
